Our newest addition to the SPIRE Squad is Margaret! When she's not busy writing her PhD thesis, you can catch her in the spin room jamming to the top 40 or some alternative rock. Read on to learn more!
Luck is something everyone wants, most claim they don’t have, and is extra desirable in March. It’s that little bit of good fortune that brings good things our way and everyone has their own idea of what “luck” is. Some believe a number has the luck they need, while others believe a rabbit’s foot does! While St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, we believe the luck should continue all through March! Check out some of the luckiest songs out there that will [hopefully] bring good things your way.
It's more than music
When people describe SPIRE Fitness, often times the words energetic, up beat, and fun are used—especially when it comes to the music. At SPIRE we believe music is much more than background noise; music motivates us, pushes us, and helps us achieve our goals. It’s amazing how a few notes, catchy lyrics, and a great beat can make us go that extra mile. Music keeps us going and reminds us to not give up. It’s the angel on your shoulder reminding you, “you can do it!”
Tell us about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Milwaukee?
I am originally from Winfield, IL. I initially came to Milwaukee to go to college at Marquette, and chose to stay at Marquette for Law School because of its sports law program. I graduated in May, and now work in the legal department for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ah, December. This month brings so many great things: the holiday spirit, the new year, and extra vacation time, to spend with family and friends. We Wisconsinites know that it also brings a lot of snow, ice, frost and flurries, so we made you a setlist that really sings about the season. In the words of Elsa, the cold never bothered us anyway!

With the holiday season being in full swing, we at SPIRE wanted to take time to sit back and reflect on the joy 2016 brought us all. We have been so fortunate to be apart of the Milwaukee community, to have the clients and friends we do, and to have the ability to continuously change people’s lives.
Our SPIRE Squad was asked either what their favorite memory of the year was or what they are thankful for. Checkout their responses below!
In plain terms, a surge is when you double your leg speed and increase resistance in short bursts. The surge is a type of high intensity interval training (HIIT), so if you’re not out of breath after a surge, you’re doing it wrong. Lucky for you the surge can be done either sitting or standing. Just make sure that you keep your perfect form because you can start to slack off once you get tired.
Drafting while cycling is a time to focus in on the ride and your form. It’s a time to put all energy and thoughts into the move, and bring your awareness internally. Here is a quick drafting 101 lesson to show you why incorporating a hill draft into your ride is beneficial.
What brought you to SPIRE?
I used to run by the river, where I would see the Marquette team rowing. I got really interested and started looking into rowing options in Milwaukee, which is how I discovered SPIRE. My first crew class was last November with Ira, on Black Friday. I’ve been hooked ever since!
It's November! What better month to strengthen our bodies and focus on a new challenge!? In November we will be working the TRX Pull Up! This is an upper body movement that works the back, rear shoulders, brachialis and brachioradialis in the arms. These muscles are located near the elbow, and help move the forearm. The biceps brachii, or simply biceps, cross the elbow and shoulder joints and work to flex the elbow joint during the exercise.
It’s that time of the year again! The holiday season, family time is all the time, and holiday decorations will soon be out. While the holidays can encourage us to snuggle up on the couch with family or spend a little too much time indulging, there are other options to spend time with the people we love. Consider talking a hike, getting in a good sweat session, or indoor rock climbing as an active alternative!
