TELL ME ABOUT YOURSELF: WHERE ARE YOU FROM? OUTSIDE OF SPIRE, WHAT KEEPS YOU BUSY?
I was born and raised in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After high school, I moved up north to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I graduated with my bachelors in business administration, studying marketing and interactive web management.
Outside of SPIRE, I spend my time with my two puppies at the dog park, playing sand volleyball with friends, and traveling. But mostly, I spend my time at SPIRE. 😍
WHY DID YOU BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR?
Growing up I was never interested in fitness outside of sports and working out by myself has never been enjoyable. When I was a freshman in college, I started attending 5+ group fitness classes a week. Through group fitness, I had finally found something that made exercising fun.
After becoming a "regular" in multiple fitness classes, I was asked if I wanted to teach. I jumped on the opportunity to be a part of a community that made fitness fun.
HOW DID YOU LEARN TO ROW?
In college I was always looking for new ways to workout. I joined the Oshkosh Community Rowing Club and learn how to scull on the Fox River. There was no better way to start my day then out on the water.
OTHER THAN ROWING, WHAT KIND OF WORKOUTS DO YOU DO?
I'm always looking for fun new fitness challenges. I've been a part of a CrossFit gym since 2012 and have found an unexpected love in Olympic lifting. Nothing makes you feel more like a badass than lifting up heavy weights and dropping them. 💪 I try to do yoga, cycling classes, and HIIT weekly. I have also recently started taking aerial yoga, silks and Muay Thai Kickboxing classes. Anything that allows me to strength my body and improve my fitness.
WHAT OTHER FITNESS CLASSES HAVE YOU TAUGHT?
Since becoming an instructor in 2010, I have taught Boot Camp, HIIT, Cycling, Turbokick, strength, and rowing classes. I am certified in Turbokick, and indoor cycling through Schwinn.
WHAT SONG GETS YOU PUMPED UP?
There are so many to choose from! I would say my top three right now are,
Hustle by Antiserum and Mayhem (great for sprints)
Very random mix.
WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?
Cheesecake. Red Wine. 🍷 Cheesy Rice Cakes. 😍
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS?
When I workout, I am very motivated by data & community. I try to bring data driven challenges & team races to incorporate both of my favorite aspects of classes I attend.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MILWAUKEE RESTAURANT?
WHAT IS A ONE YEAR FITNESS GOAL YOU ARE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?
I have a few fitness goals that I would like to accomplish before 2016 ends.
1. Hold a controlled handstand away from a wall.
2. Strict Pulls up.
3. One Muscle up.
4. Run a half marathon (and enjoy it!)
WHO INSPIRES YOU?
As cheesy as it sounds, in fitness I am inSPIREd by the amazing athletes that work at SPIRE, the clients in my classes, my peers at CrossFit. Our bodies are capable of so much if we take the time to train them. People that are willing to train and dedicate themselves to push their limits, inSPIRE me to push mine.
In life, I am inSPIREd by my amazing family members who have worked so hard to get where they are today. Their example fuels my drive to be a better person each and everyday.
