Tell us about yourself! Where are you from? What brought you to Milwaukee?

I am originally from Winfield, IL. I initially came to Milwaukee to go to college at Marquette, and chose to stay at Marquette for Law School because of its sports law program. I graduated in May, and now work in the legal department for the Milwaukee Brewers.

What first brought you to SPIRE? What was your first impression of the studio?

My friend from Law School, Aleksa, worked at the front desk at SPIRE and kept asking me to come in and try a class. After a while, I finally gave in and signed up for a Rhythm Ride class. I was instantly hooked after my first class in October 2015. Danielle and Aleksa did a great job setting me up on my bike and preparing me for class. Danielle called me out during the ride and I instantly felt like I was a part of the community even though it was my first time.

What are your favorite classes to take at SPIRE?

It’s really hard to pick! I've tried and enjoy them all. I did just try the new SPIRE Terrain Ride and think that will be a great addition! If I had to pick, I probably attend Rhythm Ride the most.

What keeps you inSPIREd for your workouts? Do you have a motto?

I'm inspired by how much I have changed and improved. I've lost 60 pounds since joining SPIRE! It's exciting to push my body in new ways and see what I can do as I continue to grow. I really enjoy challenging myself and seeing what I am capable of doing now that I couldn’t do before.

What keeps you coming back to SPIRE?

The sense of community and friendships I’ve made with instructors and other class attendees. I also love that the workouts continue to challenge me even though I’ve been coming for more than a year.

What goals has SPIRE helped you to achieve?

SPIRE has helped me a lot, from my weight loss to overall confidence at the gym. I was so nervous for my first class at SPIRE. Now I'm very confident walking into any class, new or old. Improving my cardio health and losing weight really encouraged me to work on my strength, too, and I started weight lifting with a friend from school last spring, which has definitely helped with my transformation and confidence, too.

What has been your favorite event you have participated in at SPIRE?

It would have to be the first Still Kickin Charity Ride or SPIRE's 2nd Birthday Party, because who doesn’t love cycling for two hours, then drinking champagne and eating cupcakes? Ha! I loved that the Still Kickin event benefitted someone else. The ride was connected to battling cancer and that is a cause that is extremely close to my heart.

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

The ability to fly. I’d like to get places faster and travel the world.

What other fitness activities keep you active?

Other than weight lifting, I love to go hiking and play sand volleyball at Bradford Beach when it’s warmer.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!

I’ve been thinking about this one…. I am a huge Marquette Basketball fan. The group of friends I went to games with in college always go to one away game a year. The tradition started when we traveled to Lexington, KY my senior year to watch the team play in the NCAA tournament. In the past we’ve gone to Indianapolis and Cincinnati, and this year we’re going to Washington D.C. to cheer them on against Georgetown!

What is your favorite post workout snack or meal?

Greek yogurt with berries and/or granola.

Do you have any advice for someone who is looking to start classes at SPIRE?

Don’t be intimidated! The instructors are really good at making you feel comfortable. In every class you can make it your own workout and choose how much you want to push yourself. It’s always challenging, but manageable.

What is your favorite way to relax?

Baking or reading a good book. I just got Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen’s biography for Christmas. Also, any book by Sue Monk Kidd is great.

What is one life lesson you would like to share with everyone?

A few months back, SPIRE had a quote board at the studio, and I grabbed the quote, "Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire." This quote really spoke to me because it reminds me to never let anything stop me from achieving my dreams, especially myself. I think that is something everyone should try to remember!
